Craft the future of travel

In 2018, more than 57,000 travelers missed their flights because of old-fashioned airport security rules. It caused big problems for airlines and left passengers feeling annoyed. The whole situation made everyone realise we need better, safer ways to travel.

Our team was entrusted with a bold mission called Digital Travel Credential (DTC), travelers can securely digitalize their passport and store it in their smartphone.

Problem landscape

By 2037, 8.2 billion air travelers are expected worldwide according to IATA. To address this challenge, governments and border crossing operators need to implement effective Entry/Exit solutions by deploying near walk-through border processes to reduce waiting times.

Foundational Insights

Our work was entirely inspired by customer needs. Through direct observation and one-on-one conversations, we got insight into the blockers and inhibitors of getting work done. We also discovered work accelerators.

LIZ W.
Frequent traveller

“Airport security is a nightmare! I spend more time in line for those checks than actually enjoying my flight. It's beyond frustrating.”

RACHEL P.
Traveller

“The whole security process feels like a joke. I never thought I'd spend hours just waiting to get through a checkpoint. It's infuriating.”

Rachel Peters
Traveller

“I understand the need for security, but this is excessive. I'm tired of feeling like a suspect every time I travel. Frustration doesn't even cover it.”

Rachel Peters
Frequent Traveller

“It's like they want us to arrive at the airport days in advance. The security checks take forever, and there's no end to the frustration.”

The New Experience

The DTC is a virtual credential derived from a stateissued document. It is an exact representation of the electronic machine-readable travel document

(eMRTD), that includes the holder’s facial image, biographical data, and security features.
